Edwin George Morgan was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1920 . He attended the University of Glasgow but his studies were cut short by the Second World War during which time he served in the Middle East with the Royal Army and Medical Corps. Although strongly influenced by European literature, he remains a distinctively Scottish poet. Following the war, he completed his studies at Glasgow.
